Hamilton tops yet another session, but Button, Ricciardo and Alonso all looked quick too. Meanwhile, Rosberg and Vettel will be hoping for a trouble-free session this afternoon.
Vettel had an electrical issue, the German is not expected to run again today. Rosberg had an ERS cooling issue on his car and had not been solved yet by the end of FP1.
Several drivers have been fighting for grip in this session. Vergne, Sutil, and Grosjean all went off track, but were able to continue. Perez’s incident was far more bizarre as his left wing mirror broke loose.
Mercedes have been the dominant force so far this year, with Lewis Hamilton and Nico rosberg sharing the race victories between them. Hamilton Leads the win count 3-1, but it’s Rosberg who holds the championship lead.
Firstly, the 4.655km (2.1570 miles) circuit will again feature two DRS zones. The first begins 40m after Turn 9, with the detection point 86m before the same corner. The second zone’s detection zone is on the safety car line at the entry of Turn 16, with activation occurring 157m onto the main straight.
The weather forecast suggests dry, warm conditions for all three days. Slick tyres are the only ones that will be needed this weekend.
Finally, we have a couple of driver changes to report for this morning’s first session. Giedo van der Garde replaces Esteban Gutierrez at Sauber, while Felipe Nasr steps in for Valtteri Bottas at Williams. Both Gutierrez and Bottas will be back in their respective cars for this afternoon’s FP2 session and for the remainder of the weekend.
