Rookie Kyle Larson Fastest in NSCS First Practice

kyle-larsonNASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS) Sunoco Rookie of the Year (ROTY) candidate, Kyle Larson – with a lap speed of 189.076 m.p.h. – was the quickest Friday afternoon during the first 5-hour ENERGY 400 practice session at Kansas Speedway.

Aric Almirola was second quickest with a lap speed of 188.620 m.p.h., and he was followed by Clint Bowyer (188.528 m.p.h.) who was third, Dave Blaney (188.455) fourth and Kasey Kahne (188.042) was fifth.

Rounding out the top-ten quickest drivers in the session were Greg Biffle (187.859 m.p.h.) who was sixth, Kevin Harvick (187.839) seventh, Joey Logano (187.813) eighth, Jeff Gordon (187.800) ninth and Jimmie Johnson (187.767) posting the tenth quickest lap speed.

The teams will return to the track this afternoon for their “Happy Hour” (final) practice session from 2:30 p.m. – 3:20 p.m. (ET) before qualifying at 6:40 p.m. (ET) to determine the starting lineup for Saturday night’s event.

The 4th annual 5-hour ENERGY 400 is scheduled to get underway around 7:50 p.m. (ET) Saturday evening, and FOX will provide television coverage beginning with their 7:00 p.m. (ET) pre-race show.
