Denny Hamlin wins the Coors Light Pole for Sunday’s Pocono 400. It’s his third pole at Pocono.

10341962_10152477585589222_1548005884782249599_nEarly Friday evening at Ponoco Raceway, Denny Hamlin, with a new NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS) qualifying track record speed of 181.415 m.p.h., captured the 2014 Pocono 400 Coors Light Pole Award.

Hamlin, who broke Jimmie Johnson’s qualifying track record of 180.654 m.p.h. – set last August, received his second series pole of the season, his nineteenth series career pole and his third series pole at “the Tricky Triangle.”

Starting on the outside pole to start second with a qualifying lap speed of 181.408 m.p.h., was Kurt Busch, followed by Brad Keselowski (181.316 m.p.h.) starting third, Kevin Harvick (180.832) fourth and Jeff Gordon (180.513) will start fifth.

Rounding out the top-ten starting positions will be Kyle Bucsch (180.458 m.p.h) starting sixth, Joey Logano (179.827) seventh, Dale Earnhardt, Jr. (179.565) eighth, Brian Vickers (179.548) ninth and Carl Edwards (179.383) starts tenth.

With only 43 drivers attempting to fill the 43-car field, there was no one failing to make the starting lineup.

The teams will return on Saturday for two more practice sessions beginning with a morning session from 9:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m. (ET) and then their “Happy Hour” (final) session will run from 11:30 a.m. – 12:20 p.m. (ET).

The 33rd annual Pocono 400 is scheduled to get underway around 1:20 p.m. (ET) Sunday afternoon, and TNT begins their six race coverage at 12:00 p.m (ET).
