Kurt Busch, Clint Bowyer, Brian Vickers top first Sprint Cup practice at Sonoma

kurt-busch-sonomaThe NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS) is at Sonoma Raceway for their first (of two) road course of the season, and Friday afternoon it was, Kurt Busch, with a lap speed of 95.470 m.p.h., who was the quickest during the first Toyota/Save Mart 350 practice session.

Posting the second quickest lap speed of 95.421 m.p.h., was Clint Bowyer, followed by Brian Vickers (95.080 m.p.h.) who was third, Martin Truex, Jr. (94.978) fourth and series Rookie of the Year (ROTY) contender, Kyle Larson (94.825) was fifth quickest.

Rounding out the top-ten quickest drivers in the session were Marcos Ambrose (94.714 m.p.h.) who was sixth, Dale Earnhardt, Jr. (94.707) seventh, Paul Menard (94.626) eighth, Tony Stewart (94.553) ninth and Carl Edwards (94.539) posting the tenth quickest lap speed.

The teams will have their “Happy Hour” (final) practice this evening from 6:30 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. (ET) before returing on Saturday afternoon at 1:40 p.m. (ET) for qualifying to determine the starting lineup for Sunday’s race.

The 26th annual Toyota/Save Mart 350 is slated to get underway around 3:20 p.m. (ET) Sunday afternoon, and TNT will provide television coverage at 2:00 p.m. (ET).
