Carl Edwards earns first road course win at Sonoma

BqxJ-P1CcAAxltdCarl Edwards received his first NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS) road course victory Sunday afternoon, as Edwards wins the 2014 NSCS Toyota/Save Mart 350 at Sonoma Raceway.

This was Edwards’ second series win of the season, his twenty-third series career win and his first series win at Sonoma Raceway makes it the tenth consecutive first-time win in the series at the track.

The current series points leader, Jeff Gordon, followed Edwards to the drop of the checkered flag by 0.591 seconds, while Dale Earnhardt, Jr. finished third, pole-sitter Jamie McMurray fourth and Paul Menard finished fifth.

Rounding out the top-ten finishing positions were Kasey Kahne claiming sixth-place, Jimmie Johnson seventh, Marcos Ambrose eighth, Greg Biffle ninth and Clint Bowyer bringing home tenth.

With his second place finish, Jeff Gordon leaves Sonoma with a 20-point lead over his teammate and the defending series champion, Jimmie Johnson.
