Team Penske again dominates Sprint Cup qualifying; Brad Keselowski on pole, Joey Logano alongside at Kentucky

BrK9vYdCYAADXBIBrad Keselowski became the new NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS) qualifying track record holder at Kentucky Speedway Friday night, as he recorded a record shattering qualifying lap speed of 188.791mph, to claim the Coors Light Pole Award for Saturday night’s Quaker State 400.

Keselowski, who broke Dale Earnhardt, Jr’s June of 2013 record of 183.636mph, received his third series pole of the 2014 season, his sixth series career pole and his first series pole at Kentucky Speedway.

Keselowski’s fellow Team Penske teammate, Joey Logano, will share the front row to start second with a qualifying lap speed of 187.175mph. and they will be followed by Jeff Gordon (186.832mph) starting third, Denny Hamlin (186.374) fourth and Kevin Harvick (186.104) starts fifth.

Series Rookie of the Year (ROTY) candidate, Kyle Larson (186.034mph) will start sixth, while Ryan Newman (186.014) starts seventh, Jamie McMurray (185.957) eighth, Kurt Busch (185.950) ninth and Danica Patrick (185.803) rounds out the top-ten.

There was no one failing to make the starting lineup, as only 42 drivers attempted to fill the 43-car field, making this is the first time since 1996 – at Dover Int’l Speedway – that a full field did not show up for qualifying.

The 4th annual Quaker State 400 is scheduled to get underway around 7:50 p.m. (ET) Saturday night, and TNT will begin their coverage at 6:30 p.m. (ET) with their Countdown to Green pre-race show.
