Erik Jones tops opening Eldora practice

eldora-practice-hero_jpg_mainThe NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) returns to Eldora Speedway today for tonight’s 2nd annual 1-800 Car Cash Mudsummer Classic, and beginning the day with their first (of two) practice session. And, at the end of the session with a lap speed of 90.749mph, it was Erik Jones at the top of the scoring pylon.

Series Rookie of the Year (ROTY) candidate, Mason Mingus, was second fastest with a lap speed of 90.653mph, and was followed by Matt Crafton (90.221mph) who was third, ROTY candidate Tyler Reddick (90.149) fourth and Kyle Larson (90.009) was fifth.

Rounding out the top-ten fastest drivers in the session were German Quiroga (89.633mph) who was sixth, Darrell Wallace, Jr. (89.592) seventh, Timothy Peters (89.486) eighth, ROTY candidate Chase Pistone (89.321) ninth and Johnny Sauter (89.303) posting tenth.

“Happy Hour” (final) practice is scheduled to run from 11:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. (ET).

The qualifying format this year will consist of the traditional two-lap qualifying session, five 10-lap qualifying races and a 15-lap last-chance qualifying race – all beginning at 5:10 p.m (ET – FOX Sports 1). And, as it was last year, instead of the regular 36-truck field, only 30 starting positions will be filled in qualifying.

The 2nd annual 1-800 Car Cash Mudsummer Classic is scheduled to get underway around 9:20 p,m. (ET) tonight, with continued television coverage provided by FOX Sports 1 beginning at 8:30 p.m. (ET).
