Jeff Gordon advances to next round of Chase with first Dover victory since 2001

Byps3gkIYAADVwxJeff Gordon closed out round 1 of the new format in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS) “Chase for the Sprint Cup Championship” Sunday with the victory over Brad Keselowski, as he tamed “the Monster Mile” at Dover International Speedway in the AAA 400.

This was Gordon’s fourth series win of the 2014 season, his ninty-second series career win and his fifth series win at Dover International Speedway.

Following Gordon and Keselowski to the drop of the checkered flag were Jimmie Johnson finishing third, Joey Logano fourth and Matt Kenseth finished fifth.

Series Rookie of the Year (ROTY) candidate, Kyle Larson, brought home sixth-place, while Martin Truex, Jr., finished seventh, Ryan Newman eighth, Clint Bowyer ninth and Kyle Busch claiming tenth-place.

The points reset to 3000 for the twelve drivers advancing to the next round in the “Chase for the Sprint Cup Championship,” and those drivers will be: Brad Keselowski, Joey Logano, Kevin Harvick, Jimmie Johnson, Jeff Gordon, Kyle Busch, Dale Earnhardt Jr., Matt Kenseth, Ryan Newman, Carl Edwards, Denny Hamlin and Kasey Kahne.

Eliminated from advancing to the next round in the “Chase for the Sprint Cup Championship” – and will now focus on trying to win in the last seven races of the season – were: AJ Allmendinger, Kurt Busch, Greg Biffle and Aric Almirola. These driver’s points will reset back to the regular point standings seen below on the scoring grid.

Erik Jones earns first 1.5-mile win in Truck Series at Las Vegas

originalLate Saturday night at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, Erik Jones held off his fellow Kyle Busch Motorsports teammate, Darrell Wallace, Jr., to win the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) Rhino Linings 350.

This was Jones’ second series win of the 2014 season, his third series career win and his first series win at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

Following Jones and Wallace to the drop of the checkered flag was the current series points leader, Matt Crafton finishing third, Timothy Peters fourth and Brian Ickler finished fifth.

Rounding out the top-ten finishing positions were Ryan Blaney claiming sixth, series Rookie of the Year (ROTY) candidate, Ben Kennedy seventh, Jeb Burton eighth, Tayler Malsam ninth and Joey Coulter brought home tenth. With his third-place finish, Matt Crafton leaves Vegas with a 19-point lead over his fellow ThorSport Racing teammate, Johnny Sauter.

Ryan Blaney on pole for tonight’s Truck Series race at Vegas

Careers For Veterans 200Ryan Blaney, with a qualifying lap speed of 175.770mph,  will lead the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) teams to the drop of the green flag in tonight’s Rhino Linings 350 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

This was Blaney’s second series pole of the 2014 season, his fourth series career pole and his first series pole at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

Starting second on the outside pole with a qualifying lap speed of 175.536mph, will be Darrell Wallace, Jr., followed by Tayler Malsam (175.041mph) starting third, German Quiroga, Jr. (174.723) fourth and the current series points leader, Matt Crafton (174.560) will start from fifth.

Rounding out the top-ten starting positions will be Spencer Gallagher (173.689mph) starting sixth, Jeb Burton (173.617) seventh, Joey Coulter (173.394) eighth and series Rookie of the Year (ROTY) candidates, Ben Kennedy (173.355) and Tyler Young (172.227) will start ninth and tenth respectively.

With only 30 drivers attempting to fill the 36-truck field, there was no one failing to make the starting lineup

Kyle Busch outduels Joey Logano for Nationwide win in Dover

ByklSCIIcAA3AVROn Saturday, Kyle Busch was victorious for the second time this season at Dover International Speedway in the NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS), as he wins the Dover 200 and becomes the winningest driver in the series at “the Monster Mile.”

Busch, who also swept both NNS races in the 2010 season and led the most laps today – 101 out of 200, received his fifth series win of the 2014 season, his sixty-eighth series career win and his fifth series win at Dover International Speedway – breaking the tie between him and Joey Logano who finished second.

Following Busch and Logano to the drop of the checkered flag was the current series points leader and rookie contender, Chase Elliott, finishing third, rookie contender Chris Buescher fourth and Elliott Sadler finished fifth.

Rounding out the top-ten finishing positions were Kyle Larson taking sixth-place, Brian Scott seventh, Regan Smith eighth, Trevor Bayne ninth and rookie contender Ty Dillon bringing home tenth-place.

With his third-place finish, Chase Elliott, leaves Dover with a 26-point lead over eighth-place finishing Regan Smith.

Darrell Wallace Jr. tops final Truck practice at Vegas

Byjxaq-CYAAjKaIDarrell Wallace, Jr., with a lap speed of 174.814mph, was the quickest during the final NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) practice session for tonight’s Rhino Linings 350 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

Second quickest with a lap speed of 174.531mph, was German Quiroga, Jr., and he was followed by Timothy Peters (174.104mph) who was third, series Rookie of the Year (ROTY) candidate, Ben Kennedy (174.104) fourth and Brian Ickler (174.031) was fifth.

The current series points leader, Matt Crafton (173.260mph) was sixth quickest, while Ryan Blaney (173.193) was seventh, Spencer Gallagher (173.038) eighth, Joey Coulter (172.839) ninth and Joe Nemechek (172.667) rounds out the top-ten quickest drivers.

The teams will return to the track for qualifying later today at 6:40 pm (ET) to determine the starting lineup for tonight’s race.

Kevin Harvick still strong, tops final Sprint Cup practice at Dover

Kevin HarvickSunday’s NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS) AAA 400 pole-sitter, Kevin Harvick, showed the fastest way around Dover International Speedway – with a lap speed of 157.089mph – during the final practice session Saturday afternoon.

The current series points leader, Brad Keselowski, was second fastest with a lap speed of 156.379mph, and he was followed by Jeff Gordon (155.952mph) who was third, Denny Hamlin (155.858) fourth and Aric Almirola (155.380) was fifth.

Rounding out the top-ten fastest drivers in the “Happy Hour” (final) practice were Kasey Kahne (155.293mph) who was sixth, Jamie McMurray (155.273) seventh, Hendrick Motorsports teammates Jimmie Johnson and Dale Earnhardt, Jr. (with the identical lap speed of 155.273mph) were eighth and ninth fastest respectively, and Kyle Busch (155.152) was tenth.

The 45th annual AAA 400 is scheduled to get underway around 2:20 pm (ET) Sunday afternoon, and ESPN will begin their televison coverage with their NASCAR Countdown pre-race show at 1:00 pm (ET).

Joey Logano takes pole position for today’s Nationwide race at Dover

Byjpr9qIUAAdPPFSaturday afternoon at Dover International Speedway in the NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS), it was Joey Logano – with a qualifying lap speed of 154.972mph – capturing the pole for this afternoon’s Dover 200.

This was Logano’s second series pole of the 2014 season, his twenty-fifth series career pole and his fifth series pole at Dover International Speedway.

The current series points leader and rookie contender, Chase Elliott, will start on the outside pole with a qualifying lap speed of 154.865mph. followed by rookie contender Ty Dillon (153.355mph) starting third, Kyle Larson (153.107) fourth and Kyle Busch (152.938) starts fifth.

Rounding out the top-ten starting positions will be rookie contender, Chris Buescher (152.821mph) starting sixth, Brian Scott (152.737) seventh, Regan Smith (152.336) eighth, Cale Conley (152.001) ninth and Elliott Sadler (151.899) will start tenth.

Failing to make the starting lineup were Mika Duno and Mike Harmon.

The 29th annual Dover 200 is scheduled to get started around 3:30 pm (ET) this afternoon, and ESPN will provide television coverage.
