Kevin Harvick claims pole for Challenger Round finale at Dover

ByfOdv2CIAE46rjFriday afternoon at Dover International Speedway, Kevin Harvick, with a qualifing lap speed of 162.933mph, captured the pole for Sunday’s NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS) AAA 400.

This was Harvick’s seventh series pole of the 2014 season, his thirteenth series career pole and his first series pole at “the Monster Mile.”

Starting second on the outside pole with a qualifying lap speed of 162.404mph, will be Kyle Busch; followed by Denny Hamlin (162.250mph) starting third, Brad Keseloswski (162.140) fourth and Jamie McMurray (161.936) starts fifth.

Rounding out the top-ten starting positions will be Jeff Gordon (161.573mph) starting from sixth, series Rookie of the Year (ROTY) candidate, Kyle Larson (161.457) seventh, Jimmie Johnson (161.298) eighth, Clint Bowyer (160.643) ninth and Rookie candidate Austin Dillon (160.506) will start tenth.

With only 43 drivers attempting to fill the 43-car field, there was no one failing to make the starting lineup.

The teams will have two more practice sessions Saturday beginning with a morning session from 11:00 am – 11:50 am (ET), and then their “Happy Hour” (final) practice from 2:00 pm – 2:50 pm (ET).

The 45th annual AAA 400 is slated to get underway around 2:20 pm (ET) Sunday afternoon, and ESPN will begin their coverage with their NASCAR Countdown pre-race show at 1:00 pm (ET).
