Kevin Harvick fastest in first Sprint Cup practice at Dover

ByeNp89IQAAFYhhIt was Kevin Harvick who was the fastest – with a lap speed of 163.852mph – early Friday afternoon during the first NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS) AAA 400 practice session at Dover International Speedway.

The curent series points leader, Brad Keselowski, was second fastest with a lap speed of 163.726mph, while Jeff Gordon (163.562mph) was third, Marcos Ambrose (163.436) fourth and Jimmie Johnson (163.369) was fifth.

Rounding out the top-ten fastest drivers in the practice were Denny Hamlin (163.354mph) who was sixth, Kurt Busch (163.162) seventh, Clint Bowyer (163.014) eighth, Joey Logano (162.815) ninth and Matt Kenseth (162.690) posting tenth.

The teams will return to the track later this afternoon at 3:40 pm (ET) for qualifying to determine the starting lineup for Sunday’s race. The current series qualifying track record at Dover is 164.444mph, set by Brad Keselowski this past June.

On Saturday, the teams will have two more practice sessions beginning with a morning session from 11:00 am – 11:50 am (ET), and then their “Happy Hour” (final) practice from 2:00 pm – 2:50 pm (ET).

The 45th annual AAA 400 is slated to get underway around 2:20 pm (ET) Sunday afternoon, and ESPN will begin their coverage with their NASCAR Countdown pre-race show at 1:00 pm (ET).
