NASCAR Nationwide Series Kansas Lottery 300 Notes and Entry List

originalRising Star Ryan Blaney Back In Team Penske’s No. 22

Not surprisingly, Roger Penske’s driver lineup this season for the No. 22 Ford team in the NASCAR Nationwide Series could be classified as a combination of all-stars. Between two of the hottest drivers in the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup (Brad Keselowski and Joey Logano), the young, standout NASCAR Camping World Truck Series championship contender Ryan Blaney, road course specialist Alex Tagliani and Penske newcomer Michael McDowell, the only thing surprising is Penske’s owner standings lead is only 32 points over Joe Gibbs.

Team Penske’s No. 22 Ford team has been lights out this season. The five aforementioned drivers have combined to post seven Coors Light poles, five wins, 21 top fives, 26 top 10s and an average finish of 4.6 in 28 starts.

This weekend, the 20-year-old Blaney is back behind the wheel of the No. 22 Ford with crew chief Jeremy Bullins calling the race. This will be Blaney’s 10th race with the 22 team this season, in his nine previous starts he has posted one win (Bristol), five top fives, eight top 10s and an average finish of 6.8.

Blaney’s talent level continues to develop each time he straps in. His season-to-date Driver Rating of 112.2 is impressive. In his last five starts he hasn’t posted a Driver Rating below 108.2.

A large task sits on Blaney’s shoulders heading to Kansas this weekend. Not only does he need to continue the success of the No. 22 team and extend Roger Penske’s owner points lead, but in doing so he will have to better the series’ all-time winningest (68 wins) driver Kyle Busch in Joe Gibbs Racing’s No. 54 Toyota. Blaney has made only one start at Kansas posting an 11th-place finish.

“This week we hope to start up front and really see what we’ve got,” said Kyle Busch. “We aren’t giving up yet on the Owner Championship, either, there’s still time left, a lot of racing to do.”

Busch has made nine starts at Kansas posting one win (2007), five top fives, seven top 10s and an average finish of 10.1.
