Ty Dillon on pole for tonight’s Truck Series season opener

NextEra Energy Resources 250 - PracticeTy Dillon, with a qualifying lap speed of 188.774 MPH, captured the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) pole for tonight’s NextEra Energy Resources 250 at Daytona International Speedway.

This was Dillon’s first series pole at Daytona International Speedway and his fifth series career pole.

NCWTS Rookie of the Year (ROTY) contender, Spencer Gallagher – during round 2 and with a speed of 190.146 MPH – broke the previous series qualifying track record at Daytona International Speedway . Joe Rutman originally held the record of 187.563 MPH, set on Feb. 18th, 2000, but unfotunately for Gallagher, he was not able to repeat his speed in the final round of qualifying to sit on the pole.

Starting on the outside pole to start second with a qualifying lap speed of 188.707 MPH, will be Travis Kvapil, and he will be followed by Tyler Reddick (188.123 MPH) starting third, ROTY contender Austin Theriault (187.786) fourth and James Buescher (187.309) will start fifth.

Roounding out the top-10 starting positions will be Ben Kennedy (187.122 MPH) starting from sixth, ROTY contender Erik Jones (187.091) seventh, Chris Fontaine (187.087) eighth, Scott Lagasse Jr. (187.079) ninth and ROTY contender Spencer Gallagher (179.591).

New for the 2015 season, the series goes from a 36-truck starting field to a 32-truck starting field, and failing to make the starting lineup and heading home were Jordan Anderson, Mason Mingus, Justin Jennings, Cody Ware and Clay Greenfield.

The 16th annual NextEra Energy Resources 250 (100 laps) is scheduled to get underway around 7:50 pm (ET) this evening, and FOX Sports 1 will provide television coverage of the event.
