SprintNASCAR NEWS & NOTES

Sweet Home Alabama Has A Lot to Offer with Food:

Talladega Superspeedway is all about the fan experience, making sure that when families come onto the property, they get the best of everything – the greatest racing on the planet with limitless amenities to make their visit a fun and memorable one. The Alabama Tourism Department has come up with an easy way for travelers to do this and more while visiting the great state of Alabama.

When fans make their journey to the GEICO 500 and Winn-Dixie 300 this weekend during their trip to the state of Alabama, they will find that “Sweet Home Alabama” has lots more to offer in addition to NASCAR’s Most Competitive Track, one of our country’s top sporting venues. From delicious food delicacies to incredible road-trip destinations, Alabama has it all. Fans are encouraged to slow down, enjoy the trip, explore the cities and towns, experience the culinary side of the state and stay a little longer or come back sooner.

Alabama is rich in tradition, especially when it comes to our barbecue, so much in fact the Alabama Tourism Department has deemed 2015 as “The Year of Alabama BBQ.” The tourism campaign focuses on Alabama’s barbecue heritage, award-winning restaurants and talented pit masters. Highlights of the campaign include the launching of their website alabamabbq.com, a new smart phone app that alerts users when they are getting close to one of the state’s top barbecue restaurants, a photo exhibit of legendary pit masters, a new documentary film about the state’s barbecue culture and the announcement of the first inductees into the Alabama Barbecue Hall of Fame.

NASCAR XFINITY Series Winn-Dixie 300 Notes and Entry List

Twice As Nice: Sadler Looking For Two In A Row At Talladega

Defending NASCAR XFINITY Series Talladega Superspeedway winner Elliott Sadler is looking to become the second driver in series history to win back-to-back series races at the famous 2.66-mile, high-banked, superspeedway this weekend in the Winn Dixie 300 (FOX at 3 p.m. ET) joining Martin Truex Jr. – who won three straight from 2004-2006.

Sadler is currently seventh in the NASCAR XFINITY Series standings, 49 points behind the series leader Ty Dillon. In 2015, Sadler has posted two top 10s and an average finish of 13.6.

Since 1992, when the NASCAR XFINITY Series debuted at Talladega, the series has produced 23 different winners but just two have won more than once – Martin Truex Jr. (three wins) and Joe Nemechek (two wins).

In his last four series starts at the 2.66-mile superspeedway he has an average finish of 6.8 and he ranks second in Driver Rating (110.1), and second in Average Running Position (8.405).

Sadler’s greatest attribute at Talladega has been ability to close out races at a high level. He leads the series in the loop data category ‘Closers’, averaging nine positions gained in the final 10% of races at Talladega – an average of 3.6 more spots gained than the next best competitor (Joey Logano, 6.4).

Kurt Busch dominates to win rain-rescheduled race at Richmond

CDi-Z0hVAAAOXnDA debris caution prevented Kurt Busch from earning a win at Fontana last month, but the Las Vegas native was not to be denied in Sunday’s Toyota Owners 400 at Richmond International Raceway

After rain postponed the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS) Toyota Owners 400 at Richmond International Raceway (RIR) Saturday night, it was Kurt Busch taking control of the race and winning it during the day on Sunday.

Busch, who led the most laps – 291 out of 400, received his first series win of the 2015 season, his 26th series career win and his second series win at “America’s Premier Short Track.”

Current series points leader and reigning champion, Kevin Harvick, finished 0.754 seconds behind Busch to finish in second, and he was followed by Jimmie Johnson finishing third, Jamie McMurray fourth and pole-sitter Joey Logano finished fifth.

Rounding out the top-10 finishing positions were Kasey Kahne taking sixth-place, Matt Kenseth seventh, Jeff Gordon eighth, Clint Bowyer ninth and Martin Truex Jr. bringing home 10th-place.

With his second-place finish, Kevin Harvick leaves Richmond with a 30-point lead over Joey Logano.
