Jimmie Johnson scores his 76th career Sprint Cup win, tying Dale Earnhardt on the all-time wins list

CcVRBXtWoAA1a0VThe 2013 and six-time NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS) champion, Jimmie Johnson finished ahead (under caution) of fellow Hendrick Motorsports teammate, Dale Earnhardt Jr., to win Sunday’s Folds of Honor QuikTrip 500 at Atlanta Motor Speedway (AMS).

Johnson, who won this event last year, received his first series victory and first top-10 finish of the 2016 season, his 76th series career victory in 509 races and his fifth series victory in 25 races at AMS.

Following Johnson and Earnhardt to the drop of the checkered flag were Kyle Busch finishing third, Kurt Busch fourth and Carl Edwards finished fifth.

Rounding out the top-10 finishing positions were Kevin Harvick (led the the most laps – 131 out 330) taking sixth-place, Martin Truex Jr. seventh, series Rookie of the Year (ROTY) candidate, Chase Elliott eighth, Brad Keselowski ninth and Ricky Stenhouse Jr. bringing home 10th-place.

With his 3rd-place finish, the defending series champion, Kyle Busch, takes over the points lead and leaves Atlanta with a three-point lead over Martin Truex Jr.

John Hunter Nemechek wins second Truck race in G-W-C shootout

CcQoyBXW4AE1xA9Early Saturday evening at Atlanta Motor Speedway (AMS) in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS), it was John Hunter Nemechek holding off Cameron Hayley (by 0.305 seconds) to win the 2016 Great Clips 200.

This was Nemechek’s first series win and first top-10 finish of the season, his second series career win in 32 races and his first series win in one race at AMS.

Following Nemechek and Hayley to the drop of the checkered flag were Timothy Peters finishing third, Daniel Hemric fourth and series Rookie of the Year (ROTY) candidate, Grant Enfinger finished fifth.

Series ROTY candidate, Ben Rhodes, brought home sixth-place, while John Wes Townley finished seventh, Parker Kligerman eighth, Caleb Holman ninth and Spencer Gallagher rounding out the top-10 finishing positions.

With his eighth-place finish, Parker Kligerman leads the point standings and leaves Atlanta with a 1-point lead over Daniel Hemric.

Kyle Busch earns 77th career Xfinity win, first time at Atlanta

CcP6EsOWAAA8zdzFrom the pole to victory lane, Kyle Busch dominates Saturday’s 2016 NASCAR XFINITY Series (NXS) Heads Up Georgia 250, and receives his first series win at Atlanta Motor Speedway (AMS).

Busch, who led the most laps – 119 out of 163. received his first series victory and first top-10 finish of the season, his 77th series career victory in 312 races and his first series victory in 12 races at AMS.

Finishing 0.466 seconds behind Busch to finish in second was Kyle Larson, and they were followed by series Rookie of the Year (ROTY) candidate, Erik Jones finishing third, Paul Menard fourth and Ty Dillon finished fifth.

Rounding out the top-10 finishing positions were Brad Keselowski taking sixth-place, Daniel Suarez seventh, Justin Allgaier eighth, Elliott Sadler ninth and Jeb Burton bringing home 10th-place.

With his ninth-place finish, series points leader, Elliott Sadler, leaves Atlanta with with a 3-point lead over Daniel Suarez.

Daytona winner Denny Hamlin fastest in final Sprint Cup practice at Atlanta

Folds of Honor QuikTrip 500 The 2016 Daytona 500 race winner, Denny Hamlin – with a lap speed of 188.450 MPH – showed the fastest way around Atlanta Motor Speedway (AMS) Saturday afternoon during the final NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS) Folds of Honor QuikTrip 500 practice session.

Runner-up in last week’s 500-miler, Martin Truex Jr., was second fastest in the session with a lap speed of 188.226 MPH, and he was followed by Jimmie Johnson (187.297 MPH) who was third, Dale Earnhardt Jr. (187.095) fourth and series Rookie of the Year (ROTY) candidate, Chase Elliott (186.963) was fifth.

Defending series champion, Kyle Busch (186.679 MPH) was sixth-fastest, while Jamie McMurray (186.347) was seventh, Casey Mears (186.115) eighth, Kurt B.usch (186.084) ninth and Ryan Newman (185.947) rounding out the top-10 fastest drivers in the “Happy Hour” (final) practice.

The 57th annual Folds of Honor QuikTrip 500 is scheduled to get started around 1:20 p.m. (ET) Sunday afternoon, and television coverage of the race will be provided by FOX Sports 1.

Matt Crafton fastest in Atlanta Camping World Truck Series qualifying

Matt CraftonTwo-time NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) champion, Matt Crafton – with a qualifying lap speed of 179.790 MPH – captured the pole for today’s NCWTS Great Clips 200 at Atlanta Motor Speedway (AMS).

This was Crafton’s first series pole and second top-10 start of the 2016 season, his 12th series career pole in 363 races and his first pole in 15 races at AMS.

John Wes Townley will start on the outside pole in second with a qualifying lap speed of 179.685 MPH, while series Rookie of the Year (ROTY) contenders, Christopher Bell (179.662 MPH) and Grant Enfinger (179.371) will start third and fourth respectively, and Cameron Hayley (178.758) starts fifth.

Rounding out the top-10 starting positions will be ROTY contender, Cole Custer (178.631 MPH) starting sixth, ROTY contender Ben Rhodes (178.447) seventh, Ryan Truex (178.430) eighth, Daniel Hemric (178.361) ninth and Ben Kennedy (178.327) qualifying in 10th.

Failing to make the 32-truck starting lineup and heading home were Ryan Ellis, Norm Benning, Korbin Forrister, Jordan Anderson and Timothy Viens.

The 8th annual Great Clips 200 is slated to get started around 4:50 p.m. ET after the NXS Race today, and television coverage of the race will be provided by FOX Sports 1.

Kyle Busch leads 3-car Joe Gibbs Racing Xfinity Series qualifying sweep at Atlanta

Kyle BuschEarly Saturday morning at Atlanta Motor Speedway (AMS), the 2016 NASCAR XFINITY Series (NXS) teams held their qualifying session to determine the starting lineup for this afternoon’s Heads Up Georgia 250. And, capturing the pole – with a qualifying lap speed of 185.499 MPH – was Kyle Busch, where unlike in Friday’s NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS) qualifying, his NXS time was allowed to keep the pole.

This was Busch’s first series pole and first top-10 start of the season, his 49th series career pole in 312 races and his first series pole in 12 races at AMS.

Series Rookie of the Year (ROTY) contender and Busch’s fellow Joe Gibbs Racing teammate, Erik Jones, will start on the outside pole with a qualifying lap speed of 185.078 MPH; followed by Daniel Suarez (185.022 MPH) starting third, Kyle Larson (184.689) fourth and ROTY contender Brennan Poole (183.333) starts fifth.

Rounding out the top-10 starting positions will be Ty Dillon (183.200 MPH) starting sixth, Brad Keselowski (182.904) seventh, Ryan Sieg (182.735) eighth, Brendan Gaughan (182.717) ninth and Kevin Harvick (182.585) qualifying in 10th.

With only 40-drivers attempting to fill the 40-car lineup, there was no one failing to make the starting lineup.

The 25th annual Heads Up Georgia 250 is scheduled to get underway around 1:50 p.m. (ET) this afternoon, and FOX Sports 1 will provide television coverage of the event.
