2016 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS) Rookie of the Year (ROTY) candidate, Brian Scott- with a lap speed of 199.800 MPH – was at the top of the speed chart at the end of the fourth Daytona 500 practice session Wednesday night at Daytona International Speedway.
Austin Dillon was second fastest on the speed chart with a lap speed 199.769 MPH, and he was followed by the defending series champion, Kyle Busch (199.729 MPH) who was third, Jimmie Johnson (199.645) fourth and Paul Menard (199.601) was fifth.
Rounding out the top-10 fastest drivers in the session were Kurt Busch (199.190 MPH) who was sixth, Kasey Kahne (198.992) seventh, Denny Hamlin (198.711) eighth, Carl Edwards (198.706) ninth and Matt Kenseth (198.680) posting the 10th-fastest lap speed.
Now that the top-two starting positions were decided this past Sunday, the rest of the starting lineup will be determined on Thursday (Feb. 18th) at the conclusion of the Can-Am Duel #1 and Duel #2 qualifying races – they are scheduled to get started at approximately 7:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. ET on FOX Sports 1 respectively.
After the duel qualifiers, the teams will have two practice sessions on Friday 12:00 p.m. – 12:55 p.m. & 2:00 p.m. – 2:55 p.m. ET both on FOX Sports 1, and then their “Happy Hour” (final) practice will be on Saturday from 12:15 p.m. – 1:55 p.m. ET on FOX Sports 1.
The 58th annual Daytona 500 is set to get started around 1:00 p.m. (ET) Sunday, Feb. 21st, with television coverage provided by FOX.
