Johnny Sauter starts new chapter with new Truck team with big win at Daytona

JohnnyAfter a red flag for a 18-truck “big one” (wreck) on lap 93 in Friday night’s NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) 2016 NextEra Energy Resources 250, it was Johnny Sauter  – in a two-lap dash to the finish – taking the checkered flag to win the season opener at Daytona International Speedway (DIS).

In his first start with GMS Racing, Sauter received his 11th series career win in 176 races and his second series win in eight races at DIS.

Ryan Truex brought home second-place, and he was followed by Parker Kligerman finishing third, Brandon Brown fourth and Tyler Young finished fifth.

Rounding out the top-10 finishing positions were Travis Kvapil taking sixth, Daniel Hemric seventh, series Rookie of the Year (ROTY) candidate, Ben Rhodes eighth, Scott Lagasse Jr. ninth and Matt Crafton claimed 10th.

With his victory, Sauter leaves Daytona with a 4-point lead over Ryan Truex, who is currently not scheduled to race the full season in the series.

Pole-sitter, ROTY candidate and Johnny Sauter’s teammate, Grant Enfinger, got caught up in the first “big one” and ended up finishing 20th in his seventh NCWTS event.
