Could Kyle Larson’s top speed in practice lead to first career Cup win?

Kyle LarsonKyle Larson, with a lap speed of 192.902 MPH, was the fastest early Friday afternoon at the conclusion of the first 2016 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS) Folds of Honor QuikTrip 500 practice session at Atlanta Motor Speedway (AMS).

With a lap speed of 191.807 MPH, it was Kasey Kahne showing the second fastest lap speed, and he was followed by AJ Allmendinger (190.975 MPH) who was third, Ricky Stenhouse Jr. (190.646) fourth and Austin Dillon (190.404) was fifth.

Rounding out the top-10 fastest drivers in the session were Kurt Busch (190.326 MPH) who was sixth, Jamie McMurray (190.156) seventh, Martin Truex Jr. (190.078) eighth, Brad Keselowski (190.071) ninth and Kyle Busch (189.948) posting the 10th-fastest lap speed. (Note: Matt Kenseth ran the identical lap speed – 189.948 MPH – as Kyle Busch and was recorded 11th-fastest)

Qualifying to determine the starting lineup for Sundays’s race will be held later today at 5:45 p.m. ET on FOX Sports 1, and Geoffrey Bodine is the current series qualifying track record holder at AMS with a lap speed of 197.478 MPH – which he set on Nov. 17, 2005.

“Happy Hour” (final) practice will be held on Saturday from 11:30 a.m. – 12:50 p.m. (ET) and televised on FOX Sports 1.

The 57th annual Folds of Honor QuikTrip 500 is scheduled to get started around 1:20 p.m. (ET) Sunday afternoon, and television coverage of the race will be provided by FOX Sports 1.
