Keselowski, Logano turn in top speeds in Friday Sprint Cup practice at Las Vegas

BradJoeyEarly Friday afternoon in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS) at Las Vegas Motor Speedway (LVMS), the series held their first (under regulation) 2016 Kobalt 400 practice after spending Thursday testing. And, at the conclusion of Friday’s session, it was Brad Keselowski – with a lap speed of 195.327 MPH – at the top of the speed chart.

Second fastest on the speed chart with a lap speed of 195.263 MPH was Joey Logano, and he was followed by Kurt Busch (195.235 MPH) who was third, Paul Menard (194.496) fourth and Brian Vickers (194.398) was fifth.

Rounding out the top-10 fastest drivers in the session were Kasey Kahne (194.189 MPH) who was sixth, Kevin Harvick and Jimmie Johnson (with the identical lap speed of 194.126 MPH) were recorded seventh and eighth-fastest respectively, while series Rookie of the Year (ROTY) contender, Chase Elliott (194.105) was ninth and Ryan Newman (193.952) posting 10th.

On Saturday, the teams will have two more practice sessions beginning with a session from 11:30 a.m. – 12:25 p.m. ET on FOX Sports 1, and then their “Happy Hour” (final) practice from 2:30 p.m. – 3:20 p.m. ET on FOX Sports 1.

Qualifying to determine the starting lineup for Sunday’s event will be later this evening at 7:45 p.m. ET on FOX Sports 1, and it was last year that Jeff Gordon – with a qualifying lap speed of 194.679 MPH – set the new series LVMS qualifying track record.

The 14th annual Kobalt 400 is scheduled to get underway around 3:50 p.m. (ET) Sunday afternoon, and FOX will provide television coverage of the event.
