NASCAR XFINITY Series Great Clips 250 Notes and Entry List

Kyle Busch Returns To The No. 54 After 11 Races Out Of The Seat

NASCAR XFINITY Series’ winningest driver, Kyle Busch, will return to Joe Gibbs Racing’s No. 54 team this weekend and compete in the Great Clips 250 Benefiting Paralyzed Veterans of America (FOX Sports 1 at 1:30 p.m. ET) after missing 11 races due to injuries suffered to both of his legs in the season-opener at Daytona International Speedway.

“I’m really looking forward to getting back behind the wheel of the 54 Monster Energy Toyota this weekend,” said Kyle Busch. “I can’t say enough about how much Monster Energy, JGR, Toyota and all my guys have helped me and pulled for me to get back into the XFINITY car. This is a continuation of my recovery since Daytona, and we hope to continue to add to my schedule going forward through the rest of the year.”

Busch raises the level of competition when he competes in the NASCAR XFINITY Series. He holds the series record in wins (70), poles (43) and top-fives (175).

Expect Busch to find his groove fairly quickly at Michigan, in seven starts he has one win (2004), six top fives and an average finish of 4.6. Busch won the Coors Light pole for this event last season.

Open Lane: Who Can Take The Crown At Iowa?

Among the 10 NASCAR XFINITY Series races at Iowa Speedway, there have been six different winners. Of those six, only one is entered this weekend – Elliott Sadler. One out of 40 is pretty good odds that we will see a new winner at Iowa this weekend, but Sadler’s success at the 0.875-mile track might make you second-guess counting him out.

Sadler has made eight series starts at Iowa, posting a win in 2012, a series leading six top fives, eight top 10s and three poles. He also leads active drivers with a 4.6 average finish at Iowa.

Sadler will have his work cut for him to become the third driver in series history to win multiple races at Iowa (Brad Keselowski and Ricky Stenhouse Jr. each have three wins). Five other drivers entered this weekend have average finishes at Iowa inside the top 10: Chase Elliot (6.0), Ty Dillon (6.5), Regan Smith (6.7), Ryan Blaney (7.0) and Darrell Wallace Jr. (8.0).

NASCAR XFINITY Series Winn-Dixie 300 Notes and Entry List

InterstitialSlide_Xfinity_922x520NASCAR NEWS & NOTES

Twice As Nice: Sadler Looking For Two In A Row At Talladega

Defending NASCAR XFINITY Series Talladega Superspeedway winner Elliott Sadler is looking to become the second driver in series history to win back-to-back series races at the famous 2.66-mile, high-banked, superspeedway this weekend in the Winn Dixie 300 (FOX at 3 p.m. ET) joining Martin Truex Jr. – who won three straight from 2004-2006.

Sadler is currently seventh in the NASCAR XFINITY Series standings, 49 points behind the series leader Ty Dillon. In 2015, Sadler has posted two top 10s and an average finish of 13.6.

Since 1992, when the NASCAR XFINITY Series debuted at Talladega, the series has produced 23 different winners but just two have won more than once – Martin Truex Jr. (three wins) and Joe Nemechek (two wins).

In his last four series starts at the 2.66-mile superspeedway he has an average finish of 6.8 and he ranks second in Driver Rating (110.1), and second in Average Running Position (8.405).

Sadler’s greatest attribute at Talladega has been ability to close out races at a high level. He leads the series in the loop data category ‘Closers’, averaging nine positions gained in the final 10% of races at Talladega – an average of 3.6 more spots gained than the next best competitor (Joey Logano, 6.4).

InterstitialSlide_Xfinity_922x520Dead Locked: Buescher, Dillon Tied Atop The NASCAR XFINITY Series Standings

Seven races into the 2015 NASCAR XFINITY Series season and Roush Fenway Racing’s Chris Buescher and Richard Childress Racing’s Ty Dillon are tied atop the points standings at 258 points each. The tie-breaker rule – best finish – officially give Buescher the points lead, thanks to his runner-up finish at Daytona. Dillon’s best finish is third, at both Daytona and Atlanta.

Buescher’s third-place finish this past weekend at Bristol was his fourth top five and fifth top 10 of the season. In the season-to-date Loop Data, Buescher ranks third in Average Running Position (8.958), third in Driver Rating (100.5), and third in Percentage of Laps Run on the Lead Lap (94.3%). His average finish this season is 7.3 – tied with Dillon as the best among the NXS championship contenders.

And he’s done it while running double duty, starting the last four NASCAR Sprint Cup Series in the No. 34 Front Row Motorsports Ford. He’ll skip the NSCS at Richmond this weekend, choosing to solely concentrate on the NXS event – and championship.

Buescher has made three starts at Richmond International Raceway posting two top 10s and an average finish of 11.3. Buescher finished seventh in the Spring Richmond event last season.

Dillon’s consistent performance this season has him contending for a title; in seven starts he has posted three top fives, four top 10s and an average finish of 7.3. Dillon’s season-to-date Loop Data further explains his 2015 success; he is ranked sixth in Driver Rating (97.3), fourth in Average Running Position (9.133) and first in Percentage of Laps Run on the Lead Lap (98.2%).

Dillon could bounce back to his series point leading ways at Richmond. Dillon has made four series starts at RIR posting two 10s and an average finish of 11.5. He finished ninth at Richmond last fall.

NASCAR XFINITY Series Drive to Stop Diabetes 300 Notes and Entry List

InterstitialSlide_Xfinity_922x520Youth Dominates Tight XFINITY Standings

The NASCAR XFINITY Series’ top five in points has average age of 21.2, but that’s only half the story. Just 22 points separate first to fifth in the championship standings, and the competition levels keep rising.

Heading into the seventh race of the season, Richard Childress Racing’s Ty Dillon leads the standings by two points over Roush Fenway Racing’s Chris Buescher in second. Not far behind Dillon in third-place is the 2014 series champ Chase Elliott (-11 points from the lead), fourth-place Darrell Wallace Jr. (-15) and fifth-place Ryan Reed (-22).

All five young stars have kicked 2015 off right, but Dillon has had the strongest start to his season; in six races he has posted two top fives, four top 10s and an average finish 7.7.  Buescher also has been a force this season posting three top fives, four top 10s and an average finish of 8.0. But as of late 19-year-old Chase Elliott has been proving his rookie success was not a fluke. Following the season opener at Daytona, where Elliott finished 38th due to an accident, he has climbed from 20th in points to third thanks to five consecutive top-10 finishes. Among the championship contenders Elliott, leads in season-to-date driver rating (100.0).

The top three are hot but don’t forget rookie standout Darrell Wallace Jr. has posted two top 10s and an average finish of 10.5 this season. Also his Roush Fenway Racing teammate Ryan Reed won the season opener at Daytona and has an average finish 11.8.

Among the top five in points Ty Dillon has the best record at Bristol Motor Speedway. The 23 year old, Dillon has made three starts at Bristol posting three top 10s and an average finish of 5.6 (the best among active drivers). This will be Darrell Wallace Jr.’s series debut at Bristol, but the remaining drivers in the top five in points have posted the following average finishes at BMS – Buescher (11.0), Elliott (6.0), and Reed (23.6).

NASCAR XFINITY Series O’Reilly Auto Parts 300 Notes and Entry List

xfinitylogoChase Elliott Returns To Defend His Win At Texas

Last season, Chase Elliot joined an illustrious group of drivers (Dale Earnhardt Jr., Kurt Busch and Trevor Bayne) who posted their first career NASCAR XFINITY Series victories at Texas Motor Speedway. If he defends his win this season, he will be the first of the four drivers who posted their first win at Texas to do so.

While the odds look long for Elliott, there have been 14 different series winners at TMS and five of the 14 have multiple wins. Kyle Busch leads the series in wins at Texas with seven; including five consecutive victories from the spring of 2008 to the spring of 2010. Three drivers have won back-to-back races at Texas – Mark Martin (1999, 2000); Kyle Busch (2008 sweep, 2009 sweep and spring of 2010) and Carl Edwards (fall of 2010 and spring of 2011). Kyle Busch is the only driver since the NASCAR XFINITY Series started competing at TMS twice a year (since 2005) to win consecutive TMS spring events (2008, 2009 and 2010).

The defending series champion, Elliott, has regained his groove and is riding the momentum of his four consecutive top-10 finishes following his season-opening DNF at Daytona. In five starts in 2015, he has an average finish of 9.8, a driver rating of 100.0 (fifth-best in the series) and a percentage of laps run on the lead lap of 97 percent (second-best in the series).

Last season Elliott’s car came alive in the second half of the spring race at Texas. He traded the lead with his teammates Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Kevin Harvick in the final stretches of the event, but took the lead for the final time on Lap 185 and went on to win the race. Elliott posted three wins last season; he is still looking for his first in 2015.
