Keselowski, Logano turn in top speeds in Friday Sprint Cup practice at Las Vegas

BradJoeyEarly Friday afternoon in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS) at Las Vegas Motor Speedway (LVMS), the series held their first (under regulation) 2016 Kobalt 400 practice after spending Thursday testing. And, at the conclusion of Friday’s session, it was Brad Keselowski – with a lap speed of 195.327 MPH – at the top of the speed chart.

Second fastest on the speed chart with a lap speed of 195.263 MPH was Joey Logano, and he was followed by Kurt Busch (195.235 MPH) who was third, Paul Menard (194.496) fourth and Brian Vickers (194.398) was fifth.

Rounding out the top-10 fastest drivers in the session were Kasey Kahne (194.189 MPH) who was sixth, Kevin Harvick and Jimmie Johnson (with the identical lap speed of 194.126 MPH) were recorded seventh and eighth-fastest respectively, while series Rookie of the Year (ROTY) contender, Chase Elliott (194.105) was ninth and Ryan Newman (193.952) posting 10th.

On Saturday, the teams will have two more practice sessions beginning with a session from 11:30 a.m. – 12:25 p.m. ET on FOX Sports 1, and then their “Happy Hour” (final) practice from 2:30 p.m. – 3:20 p.m. ET on FOX Sports 1.

Qualifying to determine the starting lineup for Sunday’s event will be later this evening at 7:45 p.m. ET on FOX Sports 1, and it was last year that Jeff Gordon – with a qualifying lap speed of 194.679 MPH – set the new series LVMS qualifying track record.

Brad Keselowski takes pole for Sunday’s Sprint Cup race at Kansas

UntitledBrad Keselowski, with a qualifying lap speed of 195.503 MPH, captured the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS) pole Friday evening, and will lead the field in Sunday’s Hollywood Casino 400 at Kansas Speedway.

This was Keselowski’s second series pole and 20th top-10 start of the 2015 season, his 10th series career pole in 228 races and his second series pole in 12 races at Kansas Speedway.

On a down side for the No. 2 Miller Lite team, the perk -due to  winning the pole – giving first choice of pit stall, the team lost the perk for receiving a total of four warnings prior to this weekend.

Starting second on the outside pole with a qualifying lap speed of 195.454 MPH will be Carl Edwards, and he’ll be followed by Kyle Busch (194.826 MPH) starting third, Kevin Harvick (194.756) fourth and Denny Hamlin (194.735) starts fifth.

Rounding out the top-10 starting positions will be Jeff Gordon (194.623 MPH) starting from sixth, Martin Truex Jr. (194.370) seventh, Ryan Blaney (194.363) eighth, Kurt Busch (194.335) ninth and Ryan Newman (194.301) will start 10th.

Failing to make the 43-car field and going home was Timmy Hill.

On Saturday, the qualified team will have two more practice sessions beginning with a late morning/early afteroon session from 11:30 a.m. – 12:25 p.m. ET  on CNBC, and then their “Happy Hour” (final) practice from 2:30 p.m. – 3:20 p.m. ET on NBCSN.

The 15th annual Hollywood Casino 400 is scheduled to get underway around 2:15 p.m. (ET) Sunday afternoon on NBC.
