Jimmie Johnson paces field in final NASCAR Sprint Cup practice Saturday

B_hWvGhUsAA3eUwJimmie Johnson, with a lap speed of 187.637 MPH, was the quickest Saturday afternoon during the final NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS) practice session for Sunday’s Kobalt 400 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway (LVMS).

Second quickest in the session was Joey Logano with a lap speed of 186.916 MPH, and he was followed by Casey Mears (186.458 MPH) who was third, Martin Truex Jr. (186.438) fourth and Kevin Harvick (186.342) was fifth.

Rounding out the top-10 quickest drivers in the “Happy Hour” (final) practice were Brian Vickers (185.842 MPH) who was sixth, Matt Kenseth (185.816) seventh, Dale Earnhardt Jr. (185.765) eighth, Brad Keselowski (185.605) ninth and Austin Dillon (185.561) posting the 10th-fastest lap speed.

The pole winner, Gordon got some damage after Patrick spun, Gordon got into the wall, doing damage to the #24 Chevy, Gordon will go to a backup car and have to fall to the rear of the field before the drop of the green flag on Sunday. Also, late in practice Ragan slapped the wall and the team will pull out the backup car, will also have to start from the back.

The 18th annual Kobalt 400 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway is scheduled to get underway around 3:50 pm (ET) Sunday afternoon, and FOX will provide television coverage of the event.

Late lap puts Brian Vickers atop first Sprint Cup practice at Texas

AAA Texas 500 - PracticeFriday afternoon at Texas Motor Speedway, NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS) driver, Brian Vickers – with a lap speed of 199.218 mph – was the fastest during the first practice session for Sunday’s AAA Texas 500.

Kevin Harvick was second fastest with a lap speed of 198.990 mph, and he was followed by Tony Stewart (198.866 mph) who was third, Martin Truex, Jr. (198.617) fourth and Jeff Gordon (198.581) was fifth.

Rounding out the top-ten fastest drivers in the practice were Aric Almirola (198.013 mph) who was sixth, Carl Edwards (197.954) seventh, Jimmie Johnson (197.918) eighth, Trevor Bayne (197.549) ninth and Ricky Stenhouse, Jr. (197.477) posting the tenth fastest lap speed.

Qualifying is set to get started later this evening at 6:45 pm (ET – On ESPN2) to deterime the starting lineup for Sunday afternoon’s race. The current series qualifying track record at TMS is 198.282 mph, set by Kevin Harvick (in round 1 of 3) in April of this year.

After qualifying, the teams will return to the track on Saturday for two more practice session beginning with a late morning practice from 11:00 am – 11:50 pm (ET – On FOX Sports 1), and then their “Happy Hour” (final) session from 2:00 pm – 2:50 pm (ET – On FOX Sports 2).

The 10th annual AAA Texas 500 is slated to get underway approximately at 2:20 pm (ET), ESPN will begin their televsion coverage with their 1:00 pm (ET) NASCAR Countdown pre-race show.

Keselowski stays hot in cold 2nd Sprint Cup practice at N.H.

Sylvania 300 - QualifyingOnce again it was Brad Keselowski at the top of the scoring pylon, as the current NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS) points leader posted the fastest lap speed of 135.622mph, during the second SYLVANIA 300 practice session at New Hampshire Motor Speedway early Saturday morning.

Ryan Newman was second fastest with a lap speed of 134.920mph, and he was followed by Brian Vickers (134.916mph) who was third, Kevin Harvick (134.901) fourth and Carl Edwards (134.853) was fifth.

Rounding out the top-ten fastest drivers in the session were Kurt Busch (134.806mph) who was sixth, Clint Bowyer (134.772) seventh, Jeff Gordon (134.748) eighth, Jamie McMurray (134.582) ninth and Kyle Busch (134.553) posting the tenth fastest lap speed.

Irwin Tools Night Race - PracticeIt was rookie contender, Kyle Larson, getting things started for the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS) at Bristol Motor Speedway early Friday afternoon, as Larson posted the fastest lap speed of 131.083mph, during the first IRWIN Tools Night Race practice session.

Denny Hamlin, with a lap speed of 130.557mph, was second fastest in the session and was followed by Kevin Harvick (130.504mph) who was third, Brian Vickers (130.495) fourth and Dale Earnhardt, Jr. (130.132) was fifth.

With the identical lap speed (130.132mph) as Earnhardt, Aric Almirola was recorded sixth fastest, while Kyle Busch (129.877) was seventh, Kurt Busch (129.754) eighth, Carl Edwards (129.282) ninth and Jamie McMurray (128.856) rounding out the top-ten fastest drivers in the session.

Jeff Gordon buries old Michigan mark, earns Sprint Cup pole for Sunday

BvHJTOXCUAA7IbIFriday evening at Michigan International Speedway, and for the second consecutive weekend, Jeff Gordon – with a new qualifying track record of 206.558mph – captured the pole for Sunday’s Pure Michigan 400.

Gordon, who broke Kevin Harvick’s June MIS qualifying track record of 204.557mph, received his second series pole of the 2014 season, his seventy-sixth series career pole and his sixth series pole at Michigan International Speedway.

Starting on the outside pole in second with a qualifying lap speed of 206.381mph, will be Joey Logano, and he will be followed by Carl Edwards (206.115mph) starting third, Brian Vickers (205.685) fourth and Brad Keselowski (205.644) starts fifth.

Rounding out the top-ten starting positions will be Kevin Harvick (205.438mph starting sixth, Paul Menard (204.580) seventh, series Rookie of the Year (ROTY) contender, Austin Dillon (204.464) eighth, Jamie McMurray (204.354) ninth and Ricky Stenhouse, Jr. (204.174) will start tenth.

Once again, with only 43 drivers attempting to fill the 43-car field, there was no one failing to make the starting lineup.

Carl Edwards, with a lap speed of 204.111mph, was second quickest and was followed by Brian Vickers (203.920mph) who was third, Kurt Busch (203.897) fourth and Ricky Stenhouse, Jr. (203.229) was fifth.

The current series points leader, Dale Earnhardt, Jr. (202.988mph) put down the sixth quickest lap speed, while Paul Menard (202.874) was seventh, Greg Biffle (202.817) eighth, Jeff Gordon (202.629) ninth and Brad Keselowski (202.617) was tenth quickest.

The teams will return later today for qualifying at 4:40 p.m. (ET) to determine the starting lineup for Sunday afternoon’s event. The current series qualifying track record at MIS was set just two months ago – to the day – by Kevin Harvick with the current record at 204.557mph.

On Saturday, the qualified teams will have two more practice sessions before race on Sunday, beginning with a morning session from 8:3p a.m. – 9:50 a.m. (ET) and then their “Happy Hour” (final) practice – soon after – from 11:00 a.m. – 11:55 a.m. (ET).

The 45th annual Pure Michigan 400 is scheduled to have the drop of the green flag around 1:20 p.m. (ET) Sunday afternoon, and ESPN will provide television coverage beginning with their 12:00 p.m. (ET) NASCAR Countdown pre-race show.

Kurt Busch tops Friday Cup practice at Pocono

Crown Royal Presents The John Wayne Walding 400 - PracticeKurt Busch, with a lap speed of 180.353mph, was the quickest early Friday afternoon during the first NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS) practice session for Sunday’s GoBowling.com 400 at Pocono Raceway.

Brad Keselowski, with a lap speed of 180.155mph, was second quickest in the session, and he was followed by Joey Logano (179.791mph) who was third, series Rookie of the Year (ROTY) candidate, Kyle Larson (179.508mph) fourth and Clint Bowyer (179.372) was fifth.

Rounding out the top-ten quickest drivers in the session were Kevin Harvick (179.315mph) who was sixth, AJ Allmendinger (179.251) seventh, Brian Vickers (179.197) eighth, Dale Earnhardt, Jr. (179.176) ninth and Jamie McMurray (179.083) posting tenth.
