Kevin Harvick Sets New Track Record on His way to the Coors Light Pole.

BnOu3fqCAAASnwCKevin Harvick, with a new NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS) Kansas Speedway qualifying track record lap speed of 194.252 m.p.h., captured the 2014 5-hour ENERGY 400 Coors Light Pole Award Friday evening.

Harvick, who broke Matt Kenseth’s previous track record speed of 191.864 m.p.h. – set a year ago, received his second series pole of the season, his eighth series career pole and his second series pole at Kansas Speedway. (Note: Harvick originally broke the track record during the second round of qualifying with a lap speed of 194.658 m.p.h.)

Starting second with a qualifying lap speed of 193.910 m.p.h., will be Joey Logano, followed by his Team Penske teammate, Brad Keselowski (193.507 m.p.h.) starting third, Carl Edwards (193.188) fourth and series Sunoco Rookie of the Year (ROTY) candidate, Kyle Larson (193.050) starts fifth.

Rounding out the top-ten starting positions will be Kurt Busch (193.043 m.p.h.) starting sixth, Ryan Newman (192.816) seventh, Tony Stewart (192.548) eighth, Danica Patrick (192.452) ninth and Greg Biffle (191.980) starting tenth.

Failing to make the starting lineup was Dave Blaney.

The 4th annual 5-hour ENERGY 400 is scheduled to get underway around 7:50 p.m. (ET) Saturday evening, and FOX will provide television coverage beginning with their 7:00 p.m. (ET) pre-race show.
