Kyle Larson fastest in Sprint Unlimited practice

larsonKyle Larson, with a lap speed of 199.344 mph, was the quickest early Friday evening during the first 2016 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS) Sprint Unlimited practice session at Daytona International Speedway.

Second quickest in the session with a lap speed of 199.159 mph was Kasey Kahne, and he was followed by Denny Hamlin (199.067 mph) who was third, Paul Menard (198.979) fourth and Carl Edwards (198.715) was fifth.

The 2015 defending series champion, Kyle Busch (198.623 mph) was sixth quickest, while Brian Vickers (198.295) was seventh, Dale Earnhardt Jr. (198.085) eighth, AJ Allmendinger (197.807) ninth and Danica Patrick (197.785) rounding out the top-10 quickest drivers in the practice session.

The teams will have their “Happy Hour” (final) practice this evening from 6:30 p.m. – 7:25 p.m. (ET) and television coverage provided by FOX Sports 1.

The Sprint Unlimited is scheduled to get underway around 8:00 pm (ET) Saturday evening, and FOX will provide television coverage of the event.

Kyle Larson wins Xfinity finale as Chris Buescher claims the Xfinity title

24Early Saturday evening, Kyle Larson won the final NASCAR XFINITY Series (NXS) race of the 2015 season – the Ford EcoBoost 300, but for the championship, it was Chris Buescher being crowned the series champion at Homestead-Miami Speedway.

Larson, who led the most laps – 118 out of 200, received his first series win and ninth top-10 finish of the season, his third series career win in 75 races, his third series win in three races at Homestead-Miami Speedway.

Austin Dillon finished 0.934 seconds behind Larson to finish second, while Erik Jones finished third, Brian Scott fourth and Ryan Blaney claimed fifth.

Series Rookie of the Year (ROTY) contender, Daniel Suarez finished in sixth-place, as Ty Dillon took seventh, last year’s champion Chase Elliott eighth, Regan Smith ninth and ROTY contender Darrell Wallace Jr. brought home 10th-place.

The 2015 NXS champion, Chris Buescher, finished in 11th-place and won the championship with a 15-point lead ahead of Chase Elliott.

The 2015 NXS Owner’s Championship honor went to Roger Penske of Team Penske.

For the 2015 NXS Sunoco Rookie of the Year, it was Daniel Suarez taking that honor.

Kyle Busch wins Saturday’s Great Clips 250, his first NASCAR win of the 2015 season

CHZ6tfVUEAA9oejAfter being injured in the NASCAR XFINITY Series (NXS) season opener at Daytona, Kyle Busch made a victorious return in the series. as he wins Saturday’s Great Clips 250 benefiting Paralyzed Veterans of America at Michigan International Speedway (MIS).

This was Busch’s 71st series career win in 298 races, and his second series win at Michigan International Speedway.

Finishing second (by 0.477 seconds) was the defending series champion, Chase Elliott, and he was followed by Kyle Larson finishing third, points leader Chris Buescher fourth and Elliott Sadler finished fifth.

Rounding out the top-10 finishing positions were Kevin Harvick taking sixth, pole-sitter Joey Logano (led the most laps – 54 out 125) seventh, Aric Almirola eighth, Brian Scott ninth and Denny Hamlin bringing home 10th-place.

With his fourth-place finish, Chris Buescher leaves Michigan with a 25-point lead over Austin Dillon – who finished 13th.

Darrell “Bubba” Wallace Jr. was the highest finishing rookie with his 15th-place finish.

Darrell Wallace Jr. fastest in first Xfinity Series practice at Charlotte Motor Speedway

Second quickest in the practice was Austin Dillon with a lap speed of 180.469 MPH, and he was followed by Brian Scott (179.778 MPH) who was third, the current series points leader Chris Buescher (179.772) fourth and Erik Jones (179.521) was fifth.

Rounding out the top-10 quickest drivers in the session were Ryan Blaney (179.319 MPH) who was sixth, the defending series champion, Chase Elliott (179.027) seventh, Kyle Larson (179.009) eighth, Denny Hamlin (178.843) ninth and Ty Dillon (178.838) posting the 10th quickest lap speed.

“Happy Hour” (final) practice is set for this evening to run from 5:30 p.m. – 6:55 p.m. (ET – On FOX Sports 1), and then qualifying will be held Saturday morning at 11:15 a.m. (ET – On FOX Sports 1) to determine the starting lineup for that afternoon’s race. Jimmie Johnson currently holds the series qualifying track record at CMS with a speed of 187.735 MPH, which he set on October 14, 2005.

The 34th annual Hisense 4k TV 300 is scheduled to get underway around 2:50 p.m. (ET) Saturday afternoon, and FOX will provide television coverage of the event.

Joey Logano earns fourth pole of season, first at Kansas

CEha0CKWIAA2vs8Joey Logano, with a qualifying lap speed of 192.397 MPH, captured the pole Friday night at Kansas Speedway for tomorrow night’s NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS) SpongeBob SquarePants 400.

This was Logano’s fourth series pole and ninth top-10 start in the 2015 season, his 12th series career pole and his first series pole at Kansas Speedway,

Sharing the front row with Logano to start second with a qualifying lap speed of 191.911 MPH will be Kasey Kahne; followed by Brad Keselowski (191.857 MPH) starting third, Martin Truex Jr. (191.782) fourth and Carl Edwards (191.578) starts fifth.

The reigning series champion and current points leader, Kevin Harvick (191.299 MPH) will start sixth, while Greg Biffle (191.015) starts seventh, Kurt Busch (190.853) eighth, Jamie McMurray (190.228) ninth and Kyle Larson (190.154) rounds out the top-10 starting positions.

Failing to make the starting lineup was Brendan Gaughan.

Matt Kenseth survives rain, 11 extra laps to break 51-race winless streak at Bristol

CDAKoJnW4AA1js7From the pole to victory lane, Matt Kenseth broke a 51-race winless streak Saturday night, as he held off Jimmie Johnson in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS) Food City 500 in Support of Steve Byrnes and Stand Up to Cancer at Bristol Motor Speedway (BMS).

This was Kenseth’s first series win of the 2015 season, his 32nd series career win and his fourth series win at the “World’s Fastest Half-Mile.”

Following Kenseth and Johnson to the drop of the checkered flag were Jeff Gordon finishing third, Ricky Stenhouse Jr. fourth and Ryan Newman finished fifth.

Rounding out the top-10 finishing positions were Tony Stewart claiming sixth, Kyle Larson seventh, Justin Allgaier eighth, Danica Patrick ninth and Austin Dillon brought home 10th.

The current series points leader, Kevin Harvick, was involved in an incident that resulted in a 38th-place finish, and leaves Bristol with a 30-point lead over Joey Logano – who was also involved in an incident and finished 40th.

Joey Logano wins pole at Martinsville for first time in his career

This was Logano’s second series pole of the 2015 season, his 10th series career pole and his first series pole at the “paperclip” shaped short-track.

Starting on the outside pole in second with a qualifying lap speed of 98.328 MPH will be Ryan Newman; followed by Martin Truex Jr. (98.048 MPH) starting third, and the Hendrick Motorsports teammates, Jeff Gordon (97.613) and Jimmie Johnson (97.583) claiming the fourth and fifth starting positions respectively.

Rounding out the top-10 starting positions will be Tony Stewart (97.468 MPH) starting sixth, Kyle Larson (97.463) seventh, Matt Kenseth (97.392) eighth, Kasey Kahne (97.282) ninth and AJ Allmendinger (97.262) starts 10th.

Failing to make the 43-car field starting lineup were Ron Hornaday Jr., and Brendan Gaughan.

The qualified teams return on Saturday for two more practice sessions beginning with a morning session from 10:00 a.m – 10:55 am (ET – On FOX Sports 1), and then their final (“Happy Hour”) practice from 1:00 p.m. – 1:50 p.m (ET – On FOX Sports 2).
