Kevin Harvick fastest in first practice at Chicagoland

Second fastest in the session was Joey Logano with a lap speed of 187.911 mph, and he was followed by his fellow Team Penske teammate, Brad Keselowski (187.826 mph) who was third, Martin Truex Jr. (187.800) fourth and Austin Dillon (187.761) was fifth.

Rounding out the top-10 fastest drivers in the practice were Ryan Newman (187.415 mph) who was sixth, Kyle Busch (186.896) seventh, Kasey Kahne (186.709) eighth, Ryan Blaney (186.522) ninth and Kurt Busch (186.477) posting the 10th-fastest lap speed.

Weather permitting, qualifying to determine the starting lineup for Sunday’s race will be held this evening at 6:45 p.m. ET on NBCSN, and Joey Logano currently holds the series qualifying track record speed of 189.414 mph at Chicagoland, which he set on September 15, 2013.

On Saturday, the qualified teams will have two more practice sessions starting with an early afternoon session from 1:30 p.m. – 2:25 p.m. ET on NBCSN, and then their “Happy Hour” (final) practice from 4:30 p.m. – 5:20 p.m. ET on NBCSN.

The 15th annual myAFibRisk.com 400 is scheduled to get underway around 3:20 p.m (ET) Sunday afternoon on NBCSN.

Cameron Hayley sets pace in lone Truck practice at Kansas

cameron-hayley-getty-2015Due to the weather on Thursday at Kansas Speedway, the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) teams were limited to one, 90-minute practice session for Friday night’s Toyota Tundra 250.

At the end of the session and with the fastest lap speed of 175.798 MPH, was series Rookie of the Year (ROTY) candidate, Cameron Hayley, and he was followed by another ROTY candidate Daniel Hemric (175.558 MPH) who was second, Daniel Suarez (175.393) third, ROTY candidate Erik Jones (175.279) fourth and Ryan Newman (175.006) was fifth.

Rounding out the top-ten fastest drivers in the “Happy Hour” (final) practice session were Tyler Reddick (174.667 MPH) who was sixth, ROTY candidates Austin Theriault (174.593) and Spencer Gallagher (174.464) were seventh and eighth respectively, Matt Crafton (174.149) ninth and ROTY candidate Justin Boston (173.947) posting tenth.

The teams will have their qualifying session to determine the starting lineup on Friday at 4:45 p.m. (ET- On FOX Sports 1), and that evening will be the Toyota Tundra 250 – which is slated to get started around 8:50 p.m. (ET – on FOX Sports 1).

Dale Earnhardt Jr. holds on to win Geico 500 at Talladega

CEHDz9HVAAAd_KmIt was a Hendrick Motorsports 1, 2 finish Sunday afternoon, as Dale Earnhardt Jr. held off Jimmie Johnson – by 0.158 seconds – to win the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS) GEICO 500 at Talladega Superspeedway (TSS).

Dale Jr., who also led the most laps – 67 out of 188, received his first series win of the 2015 season, his 24th series career win and his sixth series win at the superspeedway.

Following Earnhardt and Johnson to the drop of the checkered flag were Paul Menard finishing third, Ryan Blaney fourth and Martin Truex Jr. finished fifth.

Rounding out the top-10 finishing positions were Sam Hornish Jr. claiming sixth, Ryan Newman seventh, the current series points leader, Kevin Harvick eighth, Denny Hamlin ninth and Josh Wise brought home 10th.

With his eighth-place finish, Kevin Harvick leaves Talladega with a 40-point lead over Martin Truex Jr.

Matt Kenseth survives rain, 11 extra laps to break 51-race winless streak at Bristol

CDAKoJnW4AA1js7From the pole to victory lane, Matt Kenseth broke a 51-race winless streak Saturday night, as he held off Jimmie Johnson in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS) Food City 500 in Support of Steve Byrnes and Stand Up to Cancer at Bristol Motor Speedway (BMS).

This was Kenseth’s first series win of the 2015 season, his 32nd series career win and his fourth series win at the “World’s Fastest Half-Mile.”

Following Kenseth and Johnson to the drop of the checkered flag were Jeff Gordon finishing third, Ricky Stenhouse Jr. fourth and Ryan Newman finished fifth.

Rounding out the top-10 finishing positions were Tony Stewart claiming sixth, Kyle Larson seventh, Justin Allgaier eighth, Danica Patrick ninth and Austin Dillon brought home 10th.

The current series points leader, Kevin Harvick, was involved in an incident that resulted in a 38th-place finish, and leaves Bristol with a 30-point lead over Joey Logano – who was also involved in an incident and finished 40th.

Tony Stewart is the current series qualifying track record holder at TMS with a lap speed of 200.111 MPH, which he set this past October 31st.

The 19th annual Duck Commander 500 is scheduled to get underway around 7:50 p.m (ET) Saturday evening, and FOX will provide television coverage of the event.

Kurt Busch fastest in Sprint Cup happy hour at Martinsville

kubu-getty-mville-1-2015During the final NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS) practice session for Sunday’s STP 500 at Martinsville Speedway, it was Kurt Busch – with a lap speed of 97.098 MPH – posting the fastest lap of the session.

Jimmie Johnson, with a lap speed of 96.810 MPH, was second fastest and was followed by Jeff Gordon (96.726 MPH) who was third, Denny Hamlin (96.652) fourth and Ryan Newman (96.598) was fifth.

Rounding out the top-10 fastest drivers in the “Happy Hour” (final) practice were Kasey Kahne (96.568) who was sixth, Sunday’s pole-sitter, Joey Logano (96.460) seventh, Kevin Harvick (96.455) eighth, Carl Edwards (96.450) ninth and Greg Biffle (96.371) posting the 10th fastest lap speed.

The 66th annual STP 500 is scheduled to get underway around 1:20 p.m. (ET) Sunday afternoon, and FOX Sports 1 will provide television coverage of the event.

Ryan Newman fastest in first Sprint Cup practice at Martinsville

ryan-newman-phx-ap-2015After rain at Martinsville Speedway delayed the first NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS) STP 500 practice session, it was Ryan Newman – with a lap speed of 97.835 MPH – at the top of the scoring pylon at the end of the shortened session.

AJ Allmendinger, with a lap speed of 97.679 MPH, was the second quickest on the scoring pylon, and he was followed by Jeff Gordon (97.664 (MPH) who was third, Jimmie Johnson {97.618) fourth and Martin Truex Jr. (97.558) was fifth.

Currently second in the series point standings, Joey Logano (97.412 MPH) was sixth quickest, while Jamie McMurray (with the identical lap speed – 97.412) was recorded seventh, Brad Keselowski (97.397) eighth, Denny Hamlin (97.212) ninth and Kyle Larson (97.192) rounding out the top-10.

Weather permitting, the teams will return to the track later this evening at a rescheduled time of 6:10 p.m. (ET – On FOX Sports 1) for qualifying to determine the starting lineup for Sunday’s race. Joey Logano currently holds the series qualifying record at Martinsville with a speed of 100.201 MPH, which he set during last year (03/28/2014) during the first round of qualifying.

On Saturday, the qualified teams return for two more practice sessions beginning with a morning session from 10:00 a.m – 10:55 am (ET – On FOX Sports 1), and then their final (“Happy Hour”) practice from 1:00 p.m. – 1:50 p.m (ET – On FOX Sports 2).

The 66th annual STP 500 is scheduled to get underway around 1:20 p.m. (ET) Sunday afternoon, and FOX Sports 1 will provide television coverage of the event.
